Katrina Rebuild allows local metro residents to attend classes, explore galleries, and recieve instruction on residential building projects. The center serves as a space for information gathering as well as demonstrable building techniques in the central courtyard shop.
The solidified outer shell begins to divide and retract allowing light to penetrate internal circulation paths as well as the front gallerys. Massing is concentrated around the periphery providing shade for the courtyard as well as reduced volume for minimal heat gain. The auditorium wall is retractible allowing instructive classes to utilize the seating for outdoor shows, displays, or classes.
